Yoga can be daunting for some but that should never negate anyone from the practice. It is, after all, when we are stiff that we need to stretch the most or when we are stressed that we need calm the most so you can never be too stiff or too stressed for Yoga! Our beginner classes will start you off gently with soft mobilisations and basic postures to help you find your feet in a safe and supportive environment. Aspects of mental relaxation and mindfulness in movement will be introduced to foster a deeper mind-body connection to develop the mind equally. The combination of the two help establish safer, gentler and more fluid movements to access the full depths of benefits available within the practices.

While these classes help to build confidence and, in time, give you access to more advanced levels of practice, they can of their own be a wonderful way of nurturing mind and body even for more experienced practitioners.

Restorative yoga
Almost everyone suffers from some level of physical tension these days. Many of us 'suck it up' and get on with life only to find these tensions grow into generalized fatigue and/or chronic pain. Restorative Yoga gives our minds and bodies an opportunity to acknowledge and unravel all the stress we wind so tightly within us. It does this through long held poses that utilize a large range of props in order to fully support the body, allowing it to completely let go. There are studies that show Restorative Yoga to be more effective than sleep at releasing physical tension while being entirely complementary nonetheless, with subjects reporting better sleep up to three nights after a class. No previous experience is required so if you find yourself nodding to any of the above symptoms then we highly recommend you try one of our restorative classes.

Please bring a towel to class. You are also encouraged to bring your own eye pillow as this will greatly enhance your restorative experience.

Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga is one of the quieter practices Yoga. The physical side of the practice focuses on releasing connective tissue, which is less elastic than muscles, therefore requiring a different approach when releasing. Yin Yoga does this through long held poses, during which surrounding muscles are relaxed in order to stretch the deeper connective tissues around the joint. Continuing to hold a pose in this way then allows the tissue time to soften and take on new shape, resulting in greater ease and a sense of fluidity throughout the body.

Yin Yoga can be quite challenging from a mental perspective as different thoughts and feelings arise and intensify while holding a pose for such durations. The mental side of the practice focuses on releasing these deep seated thoughts and feelings through the constant anchoring of the attention in the moment and on the practice. The benefits of Yin Yoga span body and mind in this way and often leaves a sense of ease for days after.
